TOURNAMENTS

The Kona sportfishing tournament scene is world renowned and for good reason – our special fishery.  We have good numbers of small blue marlin and the occasional ones up to unlimited size, combined with the growing amounts of prize money up for grabs makes for very exciting fishing!  Tournament charter opportunities fill up very quickly as they are in high demand, contact us ASAP if you’re interested.

Jody Bright’s Hawaii Marlin Tournament Series consists of eight tournaments between March and September, with the majority of them in June and July. We also fish the Blue Marlin World Cup which runs concurrently with the Kona Cup (a locally run Kona sportfishing tournament, with the same format as World Cup). There’s also a few other stand-alone tournaments like the Rock & Reel, Marlin Magic Lure Tournament and the ladies-only Wahine Tournament which are all great events. Most of our tournaments are structured around rewarding big fish or “qualifiers” (marlin over 400lb) and/or Tag and Release.

Tournament fishing isn’t for everyone. It’s a serious investment to go across the board in these tournaments. Some would argue that the extra pressure it adds, takes the fun out of their fishing. For others with that little gambling streak, it brings a whole lot more fun and excitement to the fishing. The TANTRUM Sportfishing captain and crew love the opportunity to compete against the biggest names in our industry. We have the boat and the team to compete at the very highest level and love to team up with avid anglers.
