Tantrum’s Crew for the win!
Tantrum Sportfishing Triumph: A Victory Tale from BIMT 2024. What an incredible roller coaster the BIMT 2024 turned out to be, culminating in a well-deserved victory!
Day 1
Our first day started with high hopes as we hooked a potential qualifier on the XL Plunger. We aimed to tag it for a closer inspection, but luck wasn’t on our side as it slipped away at the leader. Later that afternoon, a promising fish appeared on the short rigger, striking our Large JetPack. Without any tags to spare, and judging by the way it bit, we decided to bring it in. However, once secured, it was clear that the fish, though impressive, lacked the weight we needed – it weighed in at 366 lbs.
Day 2
Day two brought us the right fish, showing up again on the JetPack. After two powerful, line-burying runs, we had it close, with plenty of drag to control the situation. But just as quickly, an oceanic white tip began circling the boat. Only 30 minutes into the fight, and with the mark on the reel, the shark attacked, disqualifying our fish in an instant. It was a heartbreaker, but we hung it up anyway, as it was Jeffro’s largest marlin to date – 745lbs. Interestingly, the marlin had a significant healing wound from a previous encounter, right where the shark bit it.
Day 3
On the third day, the right fish returned, again hitting the short rigger and large JetPack. The first run was massive, but our rig held strong, applying plenty of drag. Despite sharks swarming around us once more, we decided to go for it. With stellar angling from Jeff and flawless teamwork in the cockpit, we secured the fish in just 19 minutes. At 714.5 lbs, it sealed our victory!
Every fish we landed was caught using the Large JetPack, equipped with our new 10/0 hooks (stay tuned for more on this).
